Jackson Riley Schnur is here!!!!

Jackson was born Wednesday, October 7th at 4:38pm. He weighed 7lbs 3oz and was 21 inches long. Here is a brief run down of the day: We were on time getting ready to leave for the hospital when I was putting my shoes on and my water suddenly broke. I immediately yelled for Carl to help me get changed. Once we arrived at the hospital and got checked in, my contractions started coming regularly and were painful. My doctor checked me and I was 4cm. Right then and there we discussed my options for pain management and I decided to go for the epidural based on how much pain I was already in. It didn't take long for the nurse anesthetist to come and give me the epidural. Immediately I felt relief and had a smile on my face. That lasted about 2 hours when I started to feel the pain on my right side. At the same time, Jackson wasn't responding well to the contractions and his heart rate kept going up and down. It was scary to see it hit the low 90s at one point. The one thing that kept me going besides, Carl being so supportive, was the thought of all our family and friends praying for us. The anesthesiologist came in to give me more medicine in my epidural and within 5 minutes I felt so much better. At this time, I was 6cm dilated, 100% effaced and 0 station, meaning the baby's head was right there! The doctor decided that my only real option was to have a c-section because I wasn't dilating and the baby's head couldn't move down any further. I was pretty scared and upset because this wasn't my ideal plan, but I just wanted to have a healthy baby in my arms. Once in the OR, I was prepped for the surgery but I could still feel the doctor as she was pinching my skin. I immediately told them to stop and they decided the best thing for them to do was to completely put me out under general anesthesia. They wouldn't let Carl stay with me and I didn't get to see Carl again until 3 hours later. The first thing I remember saying when I woke up was "So how's the baby? What does he look like? How much does he weigh?" and I really wanted to see Carl. It was hard being separated from my loves for that long! When I finally met them back in the room, it was so surreal. I couldn't believe that I was about to meet the little one that was in my belly for the past 9 months! Jackson is absolutely adorable and we couldn't ask for a better baby!
